A woman standing at the water's edge, looking toward the horizon
A companion for the after

To the woman
who is still holding,

A companion for the after.

For years I ran a full professional life, raised a family, moved countries, handled responsibility in demanding environments — while moving through profound personal changes at the same time.

When loss entered our story — the kind that does not negotiate, and after which nothing is the same — the ground shifted. We did not adjust our values to the circumstances. We adjusted our circumstances to our values. We kept going, without conceding what we held fundamental.

Some experiences do not leave you intact. They force a repositioning. Through those years I stopped looking outside for what could only be found within. That is the only lesson that held.

If you are here, you may know what it is to carry something that the world does not see. To continue — because you must — while something in you has gone very quiet.

This space is not here to fix that. It is here to sit with it. Without rushing you forward. Without asking you to be further along than you are.

The work is real. The space is yours.

— Mia

It may speak to you if —

  • the world moved on faster than you could
  • people stopped mentioning their name
  • you learned to function, but not to breathe the same way
  • nights feel longer than days
  • you carry a strength that no one sees
  • you needed somewhere honest, not inspirational

This is not a book about moving on.
It is a space to sit with what remains.

A companion

A hand
on the shoulder.

I wrote From a Bereaved Mother — The World Moved On in the years after loss. Not as a manual. Not as a path to healing. As a companion for the hours when the world is asleep and you are not.

It does not ask you to be strong. It sits with you as you are.
